Pharmaceutical products are regulated as drugs—their ingredients must be pure, undiluted, conform to what is claimed and lack impurities. Cosmetic-grade products, commonly purchased at your local drugstore or department store, are not held to the same standard. iS Clinical is a pharmaceutical-grade skincare line backed by clinical studies.

Cosmetic-grade skincare products are generally available over-the-counter and are not subject to strict regulations or clinical testing, while pharmaceutical-grade skincare products are formulated with higher concentrations of active ingredients, undergo rigorous testing, and are often prescribed by dermatologists or available through medical channels.

"Medical-grade skincare" isn't a regulated term, and it's often used as a marketing tactic, implying products are superior or more effective than over-the-counter options, which is not always the case. When choosing skincare, it's crucial to focus on the ingredients and whether they are backed by clinical evidence, rather than relying solely on the "medical-grade" label.

Even though the same ingredient names may appear on packaging of other brands, there is most often a tremendous difference in the quality, purity, and efficacy of those same ingredients.

For example, one of iS Clinical’s favorite botanical ingredients: Centella Asiatica comes in many forms and strengths. A “cosmetic-grade” (basic grade containing impurities) Centella Asiatica extract is often priced in the $50/kg region; while the “pharmaceutical-grade” (purest, most powerful grade) used in iS CLINICAL® products costs in the region of $5,000/kg.

The pharmaceutical-grade Centella may be 1,000 times more powerful than a cosmetic-grade.

Please remember that ingredients are only the starting point of a formulation and should only be viewed as a “building block”; as often an ingredient’s independent characteristics and properties are completely changed when combined with other ingredients in a formula. For example, Hydrogen and Oxygen are gases in their natural state, however if you combine 2 Hydrogen molecules with an Oxygen molecule, the result is water; which is a completely different substance. Imagine how different a formulation is from its combination of many, many ingredients that are bonded together!

Every substance in the world is a chemical and can be meticulously described by a chemical name, for example water can be known as dihydrogen monoxide, which is actually the chemical term for H2O.

The iS Clinical product line is unique in that it uses ingredients of only the highest quality and purity. Their raw materials are botanically based and pharmaceutical grade, and do not contain fillers, toxic metals, or impurities. They meet the criteria of their biochemical C of A (Certificate of Analysis) at their production facility.

A sudden change is just fine, based on skin condition needs or seasonal changes. However, if you have a history of sensitivity, patch testing products is recommended. We recommend a seasonal skincare consultation and treatment plan to best meet the skin’s changing needs and perhaps the clients' lifestyles.

To safely begin using active ingredients in your skincare routine, start with a low concentration of one ingredient, patch test on a small area, and gradually increase frequency and concentration as your skin tolerates it, while always using sunscreen.

iS Clinical skincare products are non-systemic and are considered cosmetic by the FDA. Considering this, these products, including those containing retinol should pose no difficulty during pregnancy and lactation with the understanding they should not be placed directly on lactating nipples to avoid ingestion.

iS Clinical recommends the user always consult with their individual doctor and follow that doctor’s advice regarding their particular health situation including pregnancy and lactation.

iS Clinical products are not tested on animals.

iS CLINICAL products contain ingredients obtained only from non-animal sources except for honey in WARMING HONEY CLEANSER. This product contains honey made by bees pollinating natural California blossoms and is cruelty-free. These hives are maintained by compassionate and knowledgeable beekeepers who only harvest the honey overow not consumed by the bees. This allows the hives to remain healthy and thrive.

iS Clinical products contain no unnecessary fragrances, chemical preservatives, or other chemicals. Furthermore, they use pharmaceutical-grade raw materials, free of impurities and “stowaway” compounds.

iS Clinical products do contain many botanical and “active” ingredients, so it is possible for occasional sensitivities to the products to develop. If you are concerned about potential sensitivities, we welcome you to patch test with our tester products at Lucere or we can apply certain products post treatment for you to try.
